We had a brilliant time in England and Scotland, made a ton of new friends, and played so many great shows. Thanks to everybody who came to see us. Extra special thanks to Don McLean for setting everything up, Action Beat for rocking with us, and Dom for driving our smelly asses around the UK.

We've got lots in store for the rest of 2006. Tracks are done for a 12" vinyl EP coming out on the Broklyn Beats label. It's the three of us on electronics doing some beat-heavy, home-recorded experiments; look for a November release. And we're currently working on new material for the next P&L full length.

Then this fall we'll be touring Europe for the month of October. And we've got a two week tour in States planned for late November, early December. We'll have some dates up on the shows page soon.

We had two amazing outdoor shows last weekend. First the rescheduled solar/biodiesel powered show over at Solar 1. The rain held off most of the day until Japanther's set. Chris quickwittingly grabbed a huge tarp and threw it over the crowd and the band; Japanther proceeded to give a solar powered performance in the middle of a thunderstorm.

And then the enormous Common Ground benefit on the Fourth of July. Big thanks to Joe Pterodactyl, Ian Japanther, and Todd P for putting it all together. We raised $3,631.00 for relief work in New Orleans! Thanks to everyone who came out!

We fly to London this Thursday for our first overseas tour! Check out the dates, and tell your UK friends.

CitySol is reschudeled: Sunday, July 2nd!
This Sunday afternoon we're honored to be playing a FREE, solar and biodiesel powered concert at Solar 1, New York City's first green energy arts and education center. The show is part of Citysol, a summer music and market series on Manhattan's East River waterfront powered by the belief that bringing environmentalism to New York means first putting more New York into the environmental movement. Each event includes: renewable energy-powered live music, interactive exhibits showcasing key innovations and policies for New York's sustainable future, and a green lifestyle marketplace offering apparel, electronics, household goods, media and more. It's an early show: starts at noon and runs all day.

We'd like to thank our buddies Wilderness for taking us with them on tour. We had a blast. Big thanks also to Year Future, Adam Decorp, and everybody who came out to see us.

We put up some new photos, most from the recent two tours this past spring.

Several shows coming up this summer, including our first tour of the U.K. in July. It'll be our first trip overseas. We can't wait, check out the dates.

Lastly, inspired by the nice young man in Salt Lake City who traded us an old Casio MT-205 for a copy of Stay Afraid, we'll now accept your unwanted, beat-up (but working), toy electronic keyboards in exchange for a CD or t-shirt. Come out to a show and trade!
04.05.06
Stay Afraid comes out next week and is now available for mail order on our merch page. This Saturday is the record release party at North Six and it's a killer fucking show; we'll be playing with Oneida, Ex Models, Kyp Malone, The Good Good, plus DJ Doug Mosurock. We'll have also have some new t-shirts available. Good times for all.

Next week we're off on a one month U.S./Canada tour with Wilderness and (on the west coast) Year Future. Dates are up on the shows page.

Our friend Ian Ross passed away last weekend. We're extremely saddened to have lost an amazing person: a photographer, filmmaker, gambler, kickballer, and all around crazy fucking fun dude. Ian took tons of photos for Parts & Labor and along with our friend Sam built the awesome gear crate in our van. He is sorely missed.

We're back in New York after a brutal but fun tour down to SXSW. Thanks must go out to Tod Seelie for helping with the driving, moving our gear, selling our shit, and taking some rad photos (some of which we'll post soon enough). Thanks also to Todd P for booking our shows down to and back from Austin. Thanks also to everyone who came out to see us; we'll be hitting the road once again in just a couple of weeks, with our new record in tow, supporting Wilderness.

Our label, Cardboard Records, is throwing a benefit show in March for RightRides, a grassroots non-profit that offers women and transwomen a free, safe, late night ride home to reduce their risk of harassment and sexual assault. The service began in September 2004 in direct action against assaults on women in Williamsburg and Greenpoint. RightRides has driven 200 riders home, on Saturday nights from midnight–4:30AM by organizing volunteers with cars to operate the service. Currently, the service is on a winter break due to lack of available volunteer driving teams — they're using this time off to solicit for a fleet of cars for volunteers to drive. Funds raised will go towards auto insurance policies.

Cardboard Records Presents:
A Benefit for RightRides
Friday, March 10th (10PM, $10)
at Tonic (107 Norfolk Street, NYC)
with: Parts & Labor, Big Bear, Aa, Pterodactyl
02.17.06
Check it out brand new Parts & Labor website! Have a look around. We added a page for posters people have made for our shows, plus pages for Dan, BJ and Chris to post ramblings, essays, interviews, pictures, animations, music, etc. You can also now order P&L stuff using PayPal and sign up for our email list.
01.18.06
We're very pleased to announce our new record, Stay Afraid, will be released 04.11.06 on Jagjaguwar/Brah Records. Vinyl version will be out on our own Cardboard Records. Check out an mp3 of "A Great Divide" on our a/v page. You can also stream a few more tracks on our MySpace page.
12.15.05
Download an mp3 of our recent guest DJ appearance on WNYU's New Afternoon Show from the a/v page. I think this is a podcast.

Too much sad news last week. Two bands in horrible van accidents. First Bayside crashed outside Cheyenne last Tuesday, killing their drummer, John Holohan (our friend, Jack, is thankfully okay). Then on Friday, DMBQ's van crashed en route to NYC, killing their drummer, China, and severely injuring our friend Michelle Cable. Our condolences to everyone's family and friends; our hearts are with you.
10.31.05
We're going to be guest DJs on WNYU's New Afternoon Show this Wednesday, November 3rd. Tune the dial to 89.1 FM in NYC, or listen online at www.wnyu.org.
09.07.05
Our hearts go out to the people of New Orleans.

Posted dates for our fall U.S. tour. There're still some holes; email us if you see an empty date and we're near where you live. We'll have copies of the brand new P&L/Aa split 7" and new t-shirts, both lovingly silk screened by our friends Jason and Gina at Team Screen. Hope to see you.
07.25.05
Thanks go out to Todd P for throwing the show of the summer this past Saturday. Good times. Also, some P&L tracks were used in Still We Ride, a documentary covering the NYPD's absurd crackdown on the Critical Mass bike ride during and since the Republican Convention. The film will soon be available on dvd, check it out.

We'd also like to announce our new record label: Cardboard Records. Thanks to everyone on our email list who helped us pick the name. The first release, a 7" by Pterodactyl, will be available soon (as will a nicer website).
06.20.05
This week we're going into the studio to record our next album. We've got some rad shows coming up later this summer, and a brief August tour in the works.
04.12.05
We're back from tour. Thanks to everybody who came out and helped us on the road. We'll try to get some photos up soon (if you have any email us). Also, our 7" is available for mail order, either email us or the fine folks at Plastic Records.
02.10.05
Plastic Records is putting out our next release, a 7" record featuring two new songs. Our pals Matt & Kim are doing the artwork. We'll be touring the somewhat-United States with it this spring, dates are on the shows page.
02.08.05
Our show at Tonic this Friday night with Aa has been unfortunately cancelled. We're working to reschedule. In the meantime, go to Tonic's website to learn more about their troubles and how you can help out.
01.10.05
We've got a lot of shows coming up this winter. We'll be touring the States in March/April (dates forthcoming). No more lies 2005.
11.23.04
We unfortunately won't be able to play Neptune's record release show in Allston this Sunday. Our apologies to Ben Sisto, Neptune, and our Boston friends... hope to be back soon.
11.03.04
Speechless.
09.20.04
Dan's Sunburn record release solo show is tomorrow night at the Asterisk Gallery in Brooklyn, with Friends Forever, Tyondai Braxton, Hale Zukas. It's going to rock. This month, BJ has a Flash art project entitled "ten.reasons.to.click" featured in the online gallery Tubaexotica. Hurt your eyes, in a wonderful way.
08.30.04
Dan Boucher (of Neptune and Young Sexy Assassins) just plain rules. Last night he filled in for us on the drums at our show with Big Bear and Tiger Saw in Allston, MA. He learned our entire set in two rehearsals over the weekend, and we're totally thankful for his enthusiasm and commitment. Dan, you rock.

It felt great to play a show and to debut some new songs after such a long break. We'll be making our NYC return this week for a Democracy Now! Benefit show at the Knitting Factory. Come see us play the new songs with new gear with new drummer Christopher R. Weingarten.
06.29.04
Sorry we haven't updated the site in a while. As you may have heard, Joel Saladino is no longer playing drums for Parts & Labor. He's been singing and playing guitar for his new band, Narchitect, who've been playing around NYC and recording their first cd. P&L will be resurfacing late this summer with a new lineup and new songs.

Until then, look for Dan Friel's new solo electronics cd, Sunburn, to be released in August on Velocirecords. we've also got a track on Confuse Yr Idols, a Sonic Youth tribute comp out on Narnack Records. And be sure to check out the latest issue of Swingset Magazine, which features our all-picture tour diary from our U.S. tour last fall. Much more very soon...
03.30.04
On the way to Texas, our van died in Somerset, PA. We purchased an old beat up passenger van from a used car dealership the next morning, drove almost-non-stop to Austin, and arrived just in time for our SXSW show. On the way home, the second van's engine seized up an hour over the Oklahoma border. Despite the travails, we managed to have an excellent time meeting new people and playing with friends.
03.09.04
We've got a ton of shows coming up, including a breakneck tour down to Austin for the SXSW. Come out and check out our new songs.
02.02.04
The East River Music Project benefit on Friday was a huge success, sorry to anybody that didn't get in. Thanks to Roy for donating his living room to the cause. We've been hard at work writing new songs for the next record. Last week, in spite of a broken down van, a troublesome blizzard on the drive from Boston to NYC, and an exploding amplifier, we found time to record our version of "Sugar Kane" for an upcoming Sonic Youth tribute compilation on Narnack Records. Big thanks to Seth Misterka over at Newsonic HQ for the superior engineering. Turn us into flame.
12.16.03
This Friday 12.19.03 we will be on WNYU's New Afternoon Show from 5:30 - 7:00 PM. Tune in to 89.1 FM in the New York City area, or check it out streaming live over the interweb at www.wnyu.org. We're also hopefully playing a new year's party somewhere, but not at BJ's apartment, for it is far too accident prone.
11.25.03
We're back in NYC. Tour was amazing. Thanks to everybody who helped out and came to see us play. We'll have some photos up soon. Our van still needs a name.
10.24.03
Thanks so much to everybody who came out to the cd release party last week. We had a blast. Super thanks to Kyle, Todd p, Kari, Plate Techtonics, 1776, and our Narnack overlords for putting together a great night. We're playing tonight at Siberia for CMJ, and leaving on tour tomorrow morning with Tyondai Braxton. Come see us where you live. Email us if you can help us with a last minute show. Plug them holes.
10.10.03
Hi. New website, how about that? We have a new record coming out this month. It's called Rise, Rise, Rise. It is a split, full length cd with our good friend Tyondai Braxton. It will be released by the good people at Narnack Records. We're touring this fall, check the shows page. Blam.
